NJ/NY Gotham FC are still atop the National Women’s Soccer League rankings after drawing 1-1 with the Washington Spirit on Sunday. The New Jersey-based Gotham FC have 17 points, one point ahead of the Portland Thorns, OL Reign, San Diego Wave and Washington Spirit.
Gotham FC will be back on home territory at Red Bull Arena in Harrison on Sunday, June 4, when they will play the San Diego Wave. Ticket sales for that match, which is also the club’s annual Pride Night celebration, have already surpassed 11,000, a new club record. Who knows, perhaps Gov. Phil Murphy and first lady Tammy Murphy will be at the stadium that night. They probably wouldn’t have any trouble scoring tickets, since they’re among the team’s owners. Retired international Gotham FC player Carli Lloyd is among the “strategic investors” in the team, along with basketball stars Sue Bird and Kevin Durant, and former New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning.
