Some 29% of New Jersey residents have used marijuana or other cannabis products since the sale of recreational weed for adults was legalized one year ago. That’s according to a poll by the William J. Hughes Center for Public Policy at Stockton University. The poll said 47% of cannabis users in the state partook of the drug for recreation, while 39% did so for both recreational and medical purposes, and 13% used it for medical reasons alone.
Some 69% bought from licensed outlets, while 30% said they bought from unlicensed dealers. Of those who bought on the legal market, 86% said they were satisfied or very satisfied with the products. But only 7% were satisfied with the price; legal marijuana in New Jersey is among the most expensive in the country.
Among those who purchased on the illegal market, 18% said they did so because the prices or taxes at legal dispensaries are too high. But the main reason was the lack of a legal dispensary in their neighborhood.
