Boats registered in New Jersey that are used for fishing

New Jersey fisheries make up a significant portion of the state’s economy, contributing more than $2 billion. The recreational fisheries are among the leaders in the nation. Over one million anglers fish New Jersey’s marine waters each year. According to the Department of Transportation, some 175,000 vessels are registered in New Jersey. And 67% of boats registered are used for fishing.

Resource growth and ecosystem protection and enhancement are top priorities, according to the Sea Grant Consortium. The Clean Marina Program, Clean Vessel Program, Catch and Release and Vessel Wastewater Management programs all help to reduce impacts associated with recreational boating.
