The health care industry is facing many struggles: a nursing shortage, inflated costs and, of course, a global pandemic. Newsweek and the global data firm Statista rank the world’s best hospitals on an annual list, taking into account care, research, innovation and consistency. Their 2023 rankings narrowed down 2,300 hospitals from 28 countries to the top facilities worldwide. Seven New Jersey hospitals made it to the world’s best hospital list.
Morristown Medical Center ranked highest in the state; it’s the second year in a row that the facility was ranked first in New Jersey. It ranked 46th-best in the world. Among New Jersey hospitals on the worldwide list, Hackensack University Medical Center came next (57th overall), then Valley Hospital (121st), Overlook Medical Center (167th), Newark Beth Israel Medical Center (201st), Englewood Hospital and Medical Center (317th) and Monmouth Medical Center (406th).
The hospital ranked best in the world overall was the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, followed by the Cleveland Clinic, Massachusetts General Hospital, Johns Hopkins Hospital and UCLA Health – Ronald Reagan Medical Center.
