New York countersues Newark over homeless relocation program

There’s an update in the ongoing legal battle over a New York City program, now suspended, that’s relocated more than 2,000 homeless families to New Jersey, 1,200 of them to Newark. Newark sued New York. Now, New York has filed a countersuit claiming Newark’s rule banning the relocation of low income families in unconstitutional. It’s a claim Newark says is “meritless.”

Both Elizabeth and Jersey City say they plan to join Newark’s lawsuit against New York.
