TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — A federal judge has agreed to block New Jersey’s recent political donor disclosure law in response to a lawsuit brought by a think tank founded by the Koch brothers.

U.S. District Judge Brian Martinotti granted the injunction Wednesday.

Americans for Prosperity challenged the new law, which required political organizations and some nonprofits to disclose all spending over $3,000, up from $1,600. The law also mandated that contributors giving more than $10,000 would be disclosed.

The group said the law was unconstitutional on its face and could ruin organizations.

The state argued the bill was aimed at showing who was “pulling the strings” in politics.

A spokesman for Attorney General Gurbir Grewal said the state is reviewing the decision.
