Team USA is Jersey Strong with 19 New Jerseyans Competing in London Olympics

The opening ceremonies for the London Olympics are scheduled for July 27 and Jersey pride will be out in full force. More than a dozen athletes from the Garden State will be at the games competing in a variety of sports. Learn more about them and be sure to follow their progress at the Olympics.

Basketball:

  • Asjha Jones, 31, of Piscataway will be on the women’s basketball team in her first Olympics.

Fencing:

  • Maya Lawrence, 31, of Teaneck will compete in fencing in her first Olympics.
  • Dagmara Wozniak, 24, of Avenel will compete in fencing in her first Olympic Games. She was an alternate in 2008.

Field Hockey:

  • Michelle Vittese, 22, of Cherry Hill will be on the field hockey team in her first Olympics.
  • Rachel Dawson, 26, of Berlin will be a field hockey competitor in her second trip to the Olympics.

Gymnastics:

  • Steven Gluckstein, 22, of Highlands will compete on the trampoline in his first trip to the games.

Judo:

  • Nick Delpopolo, 23, of Westfield will compete in judo in his first Olympics.

Rowing:

  • Steve Kasprzyk, 30, of Cinnaminson will be rowing for the U.S. in his first Olympics.

Shooting:

  • Matt Emmons, 31, of Brown Mills will be shooting in his third trip to the Olympics.

Track and Field:

  • Julie Culley, 30, of Lebanon will compete in the 5000-meter race in her first Olympics.
  • Jeff Porter, 26, of Somerset will participate in the 110-meter hurdles.

Wrestling:

  • Jordan Burroughs, 24, of Sicklerville is a favorite to win gold in his first trip to the Olympics.
